Concerns about the care a loved one receives in a nursing home

Even if an Illinois family lives close to a nursing home in which a loved one resides, the time spent with that person at the location can be limited. Without the ability to monitor around the clock, a family must have a level of confidence in the care facility before leaving a loved one there without worrying. Unfortunately, elder abuse is far too prevalent, making it difficult to trust even a seemingly reputable facility.

Negligence has different degrees

The outcome of personal injury cases in Illinois depends upon the level of negligence assigned to each person involved in an accident. The defense side often tries to argue for comparative or contributory negligence or claim assumption of risk to try to reduce or eliminate damages in personal injury cases.

State ombudsmen seek to protect nursing home residents

With so many of Illinois' elderly living in nursing homes, more residents are becoming aware of elder abuse incidents that have occurred in nursing homes. In order to provide advocacy for those who rely on nursing homes for their well-being, many states, including Illinois, have an ombudsman program in place to help protect those who require long-term care.

Detecting nursing home abuse

Nursing home abuse is a problem that can affect elderly and disabled people in Illinois. As the population continues to age, there are more cases of nursing home abuse and neglect being reported. To combat this problem, some states have instituted new legislation to increase penalties for those convicted of nursing home abuse and allow family members to install hidden cameras in nursing home rooms.
