Nursing home neglect precedes Illinois woman's bedsores, death

Every resident admitted to a nursing home has specific health-related needs. The family members of these individuals expect nursing staff to do what is necessary to meet these requirements. This is the reason why one Cook County family has decided to file a claim against a local long-term care facility for failing to provide an adequate level of care.

According to the nursing home neglect claim, the nursing home staff didn't follow specific instructions to care for an 81-year-old woman. The center's staff was informed that she was at risk of developing bedsores, so she would needed to be moved regularly. However, when the woman was admitted to hospital in Olympia Fields for dehydration, staff at this facility noticed sores all over the elderly woman's body.

By January 2012, the woman's health had dwindled to the point that she passed away. The family believes that the negligent care at the nursing home largely contributed to the woman's death, which is why they are seeking financial compensation for damages caused by the neglect.

The unexpected hospital stay for dehydration may have caused emotional and financial stress for the woman and her family. At this time, the woman's loved ones are seeking at least $50,000 in damages. The compensation cannot undo what happened at the nursing home, but it can help the family with the healing process and feel whole again.

Making the decision to move a loved one into a nursing home is never an easy decision, so Chicago area families depend on the staff to provide quality, attentive care. Failing to follow basic care instructions is an unfortunate breach of that trust.
