Ice accumulation leads to dangerous property, woman falls

On Behalf of | Aug 14, 2014 | Premises Liability

Winter is just around the corner for Chicago, so this is a perfect time to discuss what happens if you slip and fall on ice that is on someone’s property. If you have ever fallen on ice or know someone who has, you might know that these types of accidents can cause serious injuries that can have a profound impact on the victim. In those cases, the victim might decide that he or she should file a complaint that seeks to have the responsible party pay compensation for the injuries.

A case that was recently filed in the Cook County Circuit Court is an example of this. A woman filed a lawsuit against two Chicago property owners. The complaint asserts that the defendants failed to maintain a stairway in a safe condition, carelessly maintaining an exterior stairway, failing to warn of a hazardous condition and allowing a drainage nuisance to exist.

The woman is said to have slipped on an accumulation of ice classified as unnatural. The complaint says that the woman was severely injured when she fell on the dangerous property. This lawsuit is seeking more than $50,000 in damages for the injuries she suffered when she fell on the ice.

This is only one example of how a person who was injured can seek compensation for his or her injuries. Anyone who is hurt on another person’s property has the right to seek compensation. It is important for all complainants to know about the ins and outs of premises liability claims to ensure their case is presented in a legal and valid manner.
