On Behalf of | Sep 23, 2015 | Slip & Fall

This week is Fall Prevention Awareness Week. Falls are the leading cause of injuries in older adults. Suffering a fall can create a lesser quality of life for many older adults because of the serious injuries they sustain.

Keep these home safety tips in mind to make a safer environment for elderly loved one:

  • Clear walkways. Both outside and inside the home, keep all walkways clear of clutter. Don’t let tripping hazards stand in the way of your loved one’s independence.
  • Light walkway. Stairwells and sidewalks should be well lit for your elderly loved one. Being able to clearly see their surroundings will help them to avoid tripping and falling.
  • Keep commonly used items close. Don’t make your loved one make unnecessary trips through the house. Store medications and other everyday items close to their living space so they need to get up less often.

Has your loved one been injured by a slip and fall on someone else’s property? Property owners are responsible for keeping their premises safe.
