Nursing home abuse: Call 911 if your loved one is in danger

On Behalf of | Jun 27, 2019 | Nursing Home Abuse And Neglect

Nursing home abuse is a shock to many families who never thought that their loved ones were in danger. In some cases, they cut back on visits after seeing how well their loved one was cared for. Then, weeks or months later, the unexpected happened, and their loved one was hurt as a result of neglect or abuse.

If this sounds like what happened to your family, it’s important that you know what you can do to help your loved one. If you discover they were injured as a result of neglect or because of abuse, call 911 and a nurse immediately so that their treatment can begin. The ambulance will take them to the nearest hospital or hospital of your choice, so they can get the medical care they need.

After your loved one receives medical care, you’re in the position where you need to find out what happened. Talk to residents, staff members and the nursing home director so that you can have some idea about what they believe happened. It’s also important to talk to the doctor who treats your loved one since they may have their own assumptions about how your parent or other loved one was injured.

Certain injuries are more obvious signs of abuse than others. For instance, bed sores and repeatedly broken bones may all be signs that abuse or neglect has taken place.

Your attorney will talk to you about your options and what to do if you want to protect your loved one from further abuse in a nursing home, and get compensation for past injuries.
