15-year-old girl killed in tragic hit-and-run crash

It’s a horrible thought that someone who was arrested within the last 24 hours was released and had to be arrested a second time due to causing a person’s death. Sadly, that’s what happened in Chicago, according to a Feb. 4 report.

The story states that a 15-year-old girl was killed in Chicago Ridge when a drunk driver hit her. That same driver had been arrested just hours before the incident. At the time, they’d been accused of stealing alcohol from the Merrionette Park Lounge. He was released and went to his vehicle, apparently to drink and continue on his way.

At around 7:45 a.m., the 15-year-old girl was walking in the 10700 block of South Central Avenue when the man drove his 2007 Volkswagen into her. He was already being sought out by the police for causing numerous hit-and-run collisions throughout the local area in Oak Lawn.

Shockingly, the driver didn’t stop after hitting the girl. Fortunately, an officer witnessed the accident and was able to immediately attend to her at the scene while another officer stopped the driver. The teen was rushed to Christ Hospital, but she died from her injuries. The driver did not suffer injuries and was taken into custody.

This is a tragic story because a teen lost her life when she should have been continuing on her way that morning. It’s an unfortunate reality that some drivers don’t consider how their actions could affect others like victims and their families. If you’re affected by a drunk driver like in this story, remember that you have the right to hold them accountable for their actions.
