The most serious outcomes of car accidents

Car accidents can vary from very minor collisions to multicar incidents that cause many casualties and deaths. Unfortunately, some of these accidents can be completely unavoidable for drivers. Perhaps, for example, there was extreme weather or a fault in road signage. But for the vast majority of incidents, especially those that resulted in serious injury, fault can be assigned to one or more of the drivers.

The injuries suffered from car accidents have the potential to be life-changing. An impact at speed is very traumatic for the body, and often the head, neck and spine are the most vulnerable parts of the body. The following are some of the most serious types of injuries that occur after a car accident.

Spinal cord damage

When a person's back is injured in a car accident, the spinal cord may also be subject to damage. The spinal cord controls the functions of the body; therefore, if the spinal cord is damaged, the injured person may suffer from paralysis of the arms, legs, hands or feet. In rare situations, a car accident that causes spinal cord damage could leave a person completely paralyzed.

Vocal cord damage

When a person in a car accident suffers chest injuries as a result of severe whiplash, they may also experience generalized neck pain. In addition, they may suffer from vocal cord paralysis, which is almost always temporary.

If you or a loved one has suffered due to a serious car accident in the state of Illinois, it is important to take action so that damages can be recouped.
