5 examples of potential wrongful death cases

Every wrongful death case is a bit different, and it can be complicated to know when you have a right to compensation. Obviously, fault and negligence are some of the biggest factors to consider.

That being said, it's helpful to look at examples of when these cases may occur. Again, since each case is different, the examples listed below won't always trigger lawsuits to seek compensation. The details of the specific case make all of the difference. Still, take a moment to consider them if a loved one has passed away.

Transportation Accidents

A loved one could pass away in a train accident, airplane accident or a bus accident. Most common, of course, is a death after a car accident caused by another driver.

Medical Malpractice

The death could be related to a poor standard of care. This may result in a failure to make the proper diagnosis, for instance, or things like medication mistakes and surgical mistakes.

Criminal Acts

If a loved one is killed while someone else is committing a criminal act, even if the death was accidental, you may be able to seek compensation.

Occupational Exposure

Workers deserve a safe workplace and a company that values their health. Exposure to dangerous substances -- like asbestos -- could trigger a lawsuit, as could dangerous working conditions.

Supervised Activities

If someone else was in charge of keeping your loved one safe and failed to do so, you may be entitled to compensation if it's shown that that person was negligent in his or her duties.

These are only a handful of examples, and there are many other reasons for wrongful death cases, but they give you a helpful starting point. If you have questions or would like to learn more, we have a lot of useful information on our website.
