Nursing home residents' legal rights

Nursing homes in Illinois are expected to provide different standards of care depending on how they are classified. Facilities classified as intermediate care facilities or skilled nurse facilities must offer higher standards of care than facilities that are classified as adult boarding facilities or residential care facilities. However, all nursing homes have a legal duty to create and implement policies that prohibit neglect, abuse and mistreatment of residents.

Maintaining a safe environment for shoppers

As Illinois residents may know, injuries may occur in public buildings, such as grocery stores or shopping centers, particularly when a safe environment has not been preserved. If dangerous conditions are not corrected by the owner in a timely manner, the customer may recover damages under premises liability laws.

The potential hazards of buildings not constructed to code

It is a substantial undertaking to own commercial or residential property. Illinois owners need the financial means to buy buildings and to construct them, but it is just as important to have an understanding of building codes. This is because failure to follow building codes could lead to bystanders, patrons or tenants becoming injured. If you are injured because of building code violations, you may require medical attention and could file a lawsuit against the building owners.
