Cook County Circuit Court gets slip-and-fall complaint

Keeping restaurants clean and sanitary is a duty of almost every worker. Part of doing this is ensuring that the floor is cleaned. When employees are cleaning the floor, they must make sure that they warn customers that the floor might be hazardous. One way for them to do this is to place "Wet Floor" signs near the area of the floor that has been mopped. A lack of warning signs can lead to an injury that can greatly affect the customer.

Negligent maintenance alleged after elevator fall

With the number of floors in many Cook County apartment buildings, having elevators to move up and down makes life a little more pleasant for tenants. When these elevators are offered in a building, the landlord is expected to keep the elevators in proper working order. When an elevator isn't kept in proper working order, serious injuries can occur. A recent lawsuit filed in the Cook County Circuit Court alleges that the negligent maintenance of an elevator led to tenant injuries.

A landlord's responsibility for the criminal acts of others

When one rents an apartment, one should expect that the apartment complex has adequate security measures in place. Unfortunately, all too often that is not the case. The 2013 decision by the Illinois Court of Appeals of Merriweather v. Corey addressed just such a case and is instructive on when residential landlords face potential liability for the criminal acts of third parties.

Cook County McDonald's sued for injury to child in play area

When you take your child to a play area to have some fun and get rid of energy, you have the expectation that the play area will be safe for your child. In places like fast food restaurants that have play areas, your expectations are probably more than at a play area that isn't frequently monitored, such as a little-used park. A recent lawsuit filed in the Cook County Circuit Court shows that even areas marketed as being for children might not be safe for the children to use.

Woman claims negligence caused injury at Chicago concert

Music concerts can sometimes get very chaotic. Even though the energy level is usually very high during concerts, however, there isn't any excuse for people involved in the performance to act in a manner that could possibly cause harm to people. When someone gets injured as a result of the mayhem in a concert or the antics of the performers, the parties responsible for the concert might have claims filed against them for any injuries that occur.

Premises liability lawsuit filed against construction company

When workers report to a job site, they likely expect that the company they are working for will properly maintain the work site in a way that will keep them safe. For workers who are working out in the elements, working in a safe environment is vital to ensure safety. One construction worker has recently filed a premises liability lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court claiming that he was injured because of negligence by Riley Construction Company, Inc.
