Icy stairway leads to injury, premises liability lawsuit filed

Property owners in Cook County are expected to keep sidewalks, stairways and other paths free of ice during the cold winter months. Failing to do so can lead to serious injuries if someone slips on the icy surfaces. When the icy surface is in a dark or dimly lit area, the potential for injury is significantly increased. For the owners of one property in Crestwood, failing to keep a stairway free of ice led to a serious injury.

Nursing home entertainment 'perverse pleasure' for the staff

In many nursing home abuse cases in Illinois, it is the patient's physical safety that was put in harm's way. Cook County man paralyzed by falling branch, settlement possible

When some people see something that could cause injury on property owned by a government entity, they will sometimes contact the appropriate authorities to make a complaint or notify them of the problem. That is what happened when people noticed dead branches on a tree in the 500 block of West Grant Place in Lincoln Park. The City of Chicago, however, neglected to clear dead branches from the tree.

Cook County train accident caused by several factors

For people who live in a big city like Chicago, Illinois, public transportation options are often their chosen method for navigating around the city. When people ride on these public transit buses and trains, they likely expect that the driver is properly trained and fully competent. While that is usually the case, driver fatigue and other factors can lead to accidents. A recent Chicago Transit Authority accident is a stark reminder that public transit options might not always be safe.
