Semi accidents are some of the most dangerous on America’s highways, and an accident between two semi trucks in Bolingbrook took one life recently.

According to the Illinois State Police, the wreck happened on Interstate 55, in the northbound lanes, right around 3:30 in the morning on Dec. 20.

Emergency crews had such a hard time getting the wreckage off the road that the lanes going north had to be shut down for around three hours. Though they got one open around 7:00 a.m. — all lanes were eventually cleared — it did impact the morning commute. There were reports of some people sitting in stalled traffic for two and a half hours.

The accident was described as “horrible” by those who got to the site. The man who died passed away at the scene.

The pictures of the wreck showed the trucks both at an angle, blocking the lanes. The back end of one truck was damaged, with a door on the trailer crumpled in. The other truck’s cab was completely destroyed, spun sideways and smashed back into the front of the trailer. There was debris all over the road, but mostly around that cab. Fire trucks and police cars parked on both sides of the wreck, their lights flashing in the early morning darkness, as emergency crews worked to help the injured and get the lanes open again.

After a deadly crash, the families of those who are killed could be facing funeral costs, burial costs, lost wages, and many other financial issues. At this tough time, it’s important for them to know if they can seek out compensation.
